Collaborative Law is a form of dispute resolution in which the Judge is taken out of the equation - the parties and their lawyers contract not to go to Court. It is very well suited to Family law matters and in fact was developed to help families resolve disputes in a respectful and private way, that enabled them to still co-parent and preserve a reasonable relationship for the sake of the children in the future. It lends itself also to commercial and estate matters where it is important to maintain relationships (ie business partners, family members arguing over a deceased estate). Bev is active in promoting Collaborative Law in South Australia and sees this as a more cost effective, less stressful, quicker, more private and more creative way of resolving dispute than being involved in expensive, lengthy and uncertain litigation.
